Liquid Layouts and Static Layouts

Liquid Designs

A little overdue, but worth-wile to mention, is the fact, that my Blog is been showcasted at Liquid Designs by Christian Montoya.

I really didn't believe it, when I first saw this, since this was really only meant as an experimental sandbox, and a knolledgebase of some sort, there is lot's of stuff, that just wouldn't display right, especially in Explorer.

However, Christian came up with this great Idea last Year, to showcast interesting Fluid Layouts in this Gallery Site.

It also has a couple of interesting resources, and a list of Templates that you can choose from, to start experimenting.

Thanks to Christian Montoya for approving my submission at his new Gallery Site. It really means a lot to me.

Liquid layouts have fascinated me ever since they turned up, and there is a lot of interest recently, especially after the Holy Grail article at A list Apart, which I have been reading every single comment of.

Inspired of the material, that I had at hand, I tried my luck with a Jello Mold Piefecta, that has both a DOM Footer stick Alt and equal height collumns all together.

It works somehow, but behaves inconsistently on different Browsers. The main caevet of this is, that once the page has rendered, the footer will just not move along. I was also surprised to see, how well Camino manages to render the Template.

Most interestingly it also worked quite well on Explorer 7 and 6.

However, It's filed for now and I'd like to write about it, but haven't been in the right mood these days.

To summarize my experience and the former story about the «Holy Grail»,I believe, that it is somehow something that really can not be achieved fully.

No one of the crusaders ever found the Holy Grail in the medieval Ages. It kind of reminds you all the time.

Another thing that was on the TODO list for a while, was to check for the CSS Toolshed submission. The site is down, and I am unable to figure out, if this project is still alive.

I had placed my submission on the Server as suggested, and sent it in, but double checking again realized, that the Image Folder was nearly empty.Autsch. What a bad surprise.

However, after being unable to figure out, if this is still alive, I decided to place Christian HeilmannsHTML template Files on my Server instead.

In short, here is the Story:

The Idea was to have a Gallery of different Layouts, that would be useful for any custom CMS, something like a dynamic CSS Zen Garden.

There are around 6 submissions up to now, and I had finished mine last Year, but never submitted it, since it was buried in the dark corners of my Windose Harddisk.

So here is my submission then for the CSS Toolshed.

There is is also a datatable template, which has the add to cart options, for the productlist. You may see it here. The Logo was done in Illustrator, and then finished up with the rest in Photoshop 7.

Yes, that is what I still use.
