The CSS-Discuss mailing list

If you want to learn about CSS from the ground up and you are not afraid of lots of emails, the CSS Discuss list is a very good start.

Since 2002, this list discusses real world issues of CSS. Chaperoned by Eric Meyer, it already has an extensive archive and a pretty impressive WIKI set up to help you find answers to your problems before needing to ask the list.

The list is high traffic, and - pending the heat of the discussion - you might end up with up to 50 emails a day from it.

If you are to participate in the list, just remember that a lot of people will get and see what you post. There are some good policies in place, but in general it is a great idea to:

  • Check the archive and the WIKI to see if the problem has not been solved previously
  • Make sure your code validates and the demo URL (you should give in any case) is really available outside your network
  • Stay clear of religious wars like font-size or fixed vs. fluid layouts
  • Read the whole thread before giving information once again that has been given two times already.

We tip our hats to the CSS-D people for keeping such a massive list going for such a long time. Come around, pull up a chair, lurk a bit and see if you can add to the wisdom collected there.
